Short and simple but fantastic walking trail
The hiking trail at Pickle Springs Natural Area is about 2 miles long. Although fairly short, the hike is referred to as the "Trail Through Time" which takes you through interesting granite rock formations and along the meandering Pickle Creek. The area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. Many consider this one of Missouri's most beautiful hikes.

Per their website (2015): "From the junction of Highways 32 and W in Farmington, travel east on Highway 32 for 5 miles, then turn right (east) on Highway AA. Follow Highway AA east for 1.7 miles to Dorlac Road (gravel). Turn left (north) onto Dorlac Road and drive 0.4 mile to the parking lot on the right (east) side. Because of the fragility of the sandstone formations and the rare plants that grow here visitors are strongly encouraged to stay on the excellent Trail Through Time hiking trail....

I just returned yesterday from a camping & hiking visit to Hawn State Park & Pickle Springs Natural Area here in Missouri. We camped at the quiet, walk-in camping site #47 at Hawn State Park. Our tent was just a few feet from the trickling sounds of Pickle Creek. I'll write a review later about the park which is excellent. On our first day, we hiked in Pickle Springs Natural Area which is fantastic. More to come.... - feeling happy

The Travel Penguin I was also in the area (Sainte Genevieve) recently but didn't have a chance to visit the parks. I hear that they are a "must-do" so I hope to get... Show more 6 hours 58 minutes ago

Today was another beautiful day for a walk at Quail Ridge Park near Wentzville, Missouri. This morning, I did the paved loop trail for the umpteenth time. It's always enjoyable with other walkers/joggers and dog walkers in the morning. - feeling happy

Primitive Backpacking Overnight Camp Sites on Hiking Trails in Missouri

I would love to get a list going of primitive overnight backpacking spots in Missouri. These would be spots where you need to hike-in to camp and the campsites would contain nothing more than a fire ring, if even that. They would be mid-trail layover sites for multi-day length hiking trails. Please let me know here of such spots on which trail and in which park they are located. If you have a URL, that would be great. Thank you
